She's Leaving Home...
Sep. 6th, 2009 12:30 amI moved into my room at the halls of residence today and I'm already well settled in with my internet set up on both computers; record player, cd drive, external hard drive and speakers in place on my desk and some of my books, CDs, records and clothes in their new homes on my shelves. I've only met one of my flatmates and she's going home until Wednesday so I'm on my lonesome tonight because two of our neighbours stayed long enough dibs on kitchen cupboards and I have no idea about the other two. When we're all here, we each have one room with free internet, hideous curtains and ensuite bathroom and a kitchen we all share.
On the car ride over with my dad and stepmum, we listened to Richard Herring's Just a Minute debut. (One of the good things about coming to Huddersfield to study is that the accommodation is less than twenty miles away from home, so the journey takes less time than an episode of JaM). Poor Rich didn't get very far whenever he had the subject because he hesitates too much but Super Kins maintained a repition, hesitation and deviation free monologue on applying makeup for the full minute during the last round. She ended up winning, helped also by the fact buzzed herself at one point in one of the previous rounds and got a point for a correct challenge and got to keep the subject. Now that's just cheating. :-)
Once my parents had got me set up and settled, they abandoned me to my fate and I've been pootling around since about 6 o'clock when my flatemate went on her way. I decided rather than go to the onsite bar on my first night just to get used to my room. So I've had an evening of eating chilli, listening to music and watching the first series of the Guild (http://www.watchtheguild.com/). All great fun, except I hadn't realised that the chilli ready meal was "not suitable for microwaving" and had to faff around with the oven to warm it up. It turned out lovely in the end but nothing like my stepmum's wonderful chilli. Someday soon I will start making my own chilli - but not just yet.
