Title: She Speaks Like Silence
Word Count: 85
Rating: G
Original/Fandom: Hamlet
Pairings (if any): Horatio/Ophelia
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): none
Song: Bridget St. John – Love Minus Zero, No Limit

She does not speak some days and that worries him more than her unconnected words and phrases and snatches of bawdy ballads that echo round the castle halls.

"Please, sweet lady," he says and yet he knows not what to ask her.

The physicians of the court have done naught for her save tell them what they both already knew. They must be patient. This she knows well even in the moments when the rest of he senses play their cruel tricks upon her mind.

Title: Words to Pay the Debt of Silence
Word Count: 51
Rating: G
Original/Fandom: Original
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): none
Song: The Monkees – Words

The words of days past do not clear the debt that silence left. I would rather the lies be told directly to my face than have them left stewing in that awful silence. You pay my own words of pleading no heed because I have not spoken them to you either.

Title: Pickers and Stealers
Word Count: 103
Rating: G
Original/Fandom: Hamlet
Pairings (if any): Hamlet/Rosencrantz/Guildenstern
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): none
Song: Nickelback – How You Remind Me

By these pickers and stealers, I love you still. But you fool me to the top of my bent. You would play my every stop and I cannot take the pain of being sounded out so. I have my passions and they will not be made into any melody that you can use to the end that is not even of your own composing. You traiterous sponges. Go to your deaths. I cannot grieve. When your master breathes his last, then I may mourn you both, though only if I hear the news from England before my own last breath passes my lips.

Title: Fathers
Word Count: 43
Rating: G
Original/Fandom: Hamlet
Pairings (if any): Ophelia/Hamlet
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): none
Song: Jo Stafford – Old Joe Clark

The distance between the two of us is the closest it has ever been. Yet we are now separated by the abyss of fathers both quick and dead. I am sorry that I must heed mine while yours is silent in his grave.

Title: To Speak of Horrors, He Comes Before Her
Word Count: 111
Rating: G
Original/Fandom: Hamlet
Pairings (if any): Ophelia/Hamlet
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/Underage): none
Song: Townes Van Zandt – Our Mother the Mountain

She stands in her shift before him, white in the moonlit room. Ghost like. How can he look upon so translucent a creature and not think of his father towering over him on the battlements.

He cannot believe her to be real in that moment. Though he tries to prove to himself she is. He kisses her and takes her by her wrist and shakes her until she cries out. He examines her closely and concludes at last she is not real. His eyes fixed upon her all the while, lest she vanish when she is banished from his sights, he leaves her.

He knows she will go to her father.
