Gosh, I'm tired today. However, contrary to how I felt for most of the weekend just gone, my brain is still very much awake, it's my body that feels achy and exhausted. To be fair I did carry several books (mostly from Oxfam), CDs (50p each from the library and with such lucky finds as Aimee Mann's Lost in Space) and shopping that consisted of grapes, eggs, bread and taste the fidderance (I started spelling it like that and will not bow to typo correction on the cusp of creating a new word! :-P ) Earl Grey tea bags. This is how I treat myself.

Why do I deserve a treat today? I woke my self up at six this morning, granted I actually got up at seven but this house is freezing at six in the morning and, besides, seven is when the boiler starts going whoomf what feels like every three minutes. It is so quiet, but oh so very loud.

The water was freezing, resulting in more cowering than actual showering, but I wasn't about to have a one sided shouting match with the stupid, bleeding, idiot boiler, so I persisted, even managing to wash my hair somehow.

I got to my course thingy for just after nine and we did a morning of induction. Apparently we were that rare breed known as a comparatively talkative group, so it wasn't as hellish as it might have been otherwise. The blokes who run the course are friendly and chatty as well as being as helpful and informative as they are informal. These next three weeks are definitely going to be helpful for me, not only with learning work skills but exercise the people skills I haven't been practising very much over the winter.

After we finished the induction morning we finished for the day. For the next two weeks it's going to be nine to three, so I'll be more tired but, like today, it will be worth it. I am going to be absolutely knackered on Tuesdays, though, because I'll have my course all morning and some of the afternoon, my volunteering for the rest of the afternoon and I'll be roleplaying in the pub until late at night. Still, it'll give me a sense of how I'll feel when I do get a job and have to do even longer hours.

So, like I say, I treated myself this afternoon. I got myself the Virginia Woolf diaries that I'd been hankering after using the recently discovered gift card that Mum had been given and decided to pass on to me, making my new book a christmas present by proxy from Mum's boyfriend's mum and stepfather.

I headed up to the civic centre, expecting to have to nag them yet again about my housing benefit but lo and behold it's finally been sorted with payments backdated to when I originally put my claim in in October! WOO and, indeed, HOO!! And a very enthusiastic HUZZAH to cap it off!!!

That is the point where I went a bit mad and bought five books from Oxfam but, dyou know what - they might be a tad steep for a charity shop but £11 for five books is not to be sniffed at considering the Virginia Woolf book was going at amazon for the same and I picked up a volunteer form while I was there so there's a potential stint volunteering in a book and music shop on the horizon. Maybe if I can do Saturdays, I won't feel as dead, lazy and brainless as I did the Saturday just gone. Sleep and, indeed, oversleep can always wait till Sunday. :-)
