Feb. 13th, 2012 08:37 pmI talked to my landlord/housemate about my room situation today not long after he got home, which was literally minutes after I'd arrived, having set off from Sheffield this morning, arriving at my course for bang on 9 o'clock (with a combination of planning and luck when the plans went awry) and staying there until threeish. He'd given me a provisional notice towards the end of January when the housing benefits people were still being gits. He still thinks I should go at the end of February/beginning of March. I'd been hoping to stay a little longer and decide where I was moving to depending on what I hear back from the jobs I'm applying for this week while I'm doing my course. It all feels a bit pooh, considering I only just got the housing benefit sorted.
Still, I do have a bit of a plan already part formed. Mum is going to be in Edinburgh for a week from the 25th of Feb and had said I could stay at her's on my own if I needed to get away from Hudds after my course finishes. It was my stuff I was mostly panicking about. I have many, many, many books just at this house, and a great number of CDs and DVDs as well and I knew instantly that there's no way that's getting to Sheffield or anywhere else with just me and a train. I searched for storage places nearby. After coming back from panic and tears mode - long and stressful day you understand - I called the closest one and arranged go along on Wednesday to see about renting a space. After finishing on the phone, I pulled up a better map to see if I recognised the place where I'm supposed to be going. It turns out to be one of the buildings between the canal and river just behind the woods at the top part of my road. I even wandered down there a few times in summer and autumn when it was warmer and actually light at night. Considering the circumstances, I'd call that a definite win!
I've boxed up my Star Trek and Doctor Who Target novelisations to give myself a bit of an idea of how much storage space my multitude of books will take up. I'm going to carry on being useful tonight and do my dishes (I got a lovely lamb and spinach curry from down to road because I honestly could not face them without eating first), but I think my laundry with have to be morning job. Stripping my bedding is one way to stop me crawling back into bed, I suppose.
I think I'll listen Peter Maxwell Davies' The Lighthouse while I get my room tidied up a bit and bag packed for tomorrow. Then ensconce myself in bed with a hot water bottle and The Angel of the Opera until I'm ready to sleep.
EDIT; On second - nay third - thoughts I'll just pack my back and skip straight to the bed part of the plan because I can't cope with the kitchen right now.
